Free to Fly
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly? When I was a young boy I often had dreams of flying like Superman. Just imagine the freedom to float almost effortlessly, weightlessly in the air. Yet, the life of a butterfly is not without risks because it is considered a tasty delicacy to birds, reptiles and spiders.
The life of the butterfly makes me think of our life in Christ. In the Bible we read, "For freedom Christ has set us free." (Galatians 5:1)
We are free to live in the presence and power of the Almighty God who made us. Free to love Him and others unconditionally. Free to not sin but enjoy life to its fullest with joy and peace. Yet, in that freedom we must be very careful because there are traps that will ensnare us and potentially destroy us.
John tells us about three of those snares:
1) the desires of the flesh,
2) the desires of the eyes and
3) the pride of life. (1 John 2:16)
In the new found life and freedom to experience the world as God planned for us we can fall prey to the temptations of the world that can enslave and destroy us. So, be careful WHERE you fly and HOW you fly lest you die.
Galatians 5:13 reads, "For you were called to freedom. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."
