We... Like Leaves
I can't help but think of our personal existence as I gaze upon the leaves. Some never form due to adverse weather during the early stages, some become food for grazing insects and animals, and others live through their entire life cycle... departing in a blaze of glory. Yet, they all have one thing in common -- none live forever.
Speaking with a friend who had a near-death experience, she said that she never knew what hit her. An unknown and unexpected brain aneurysm hit so suddenly that she immediately passed out. That could very easily have been the day she met the Lord face-to-face. The same is true for each of us in that we have no idea when we will say our last "I love you" or breathe our last on this planet. Physical death is no respecter of persons and can happen to babies, children, teens and adults -- all ages, all levels of fitness.
Here's where I'm going with this and I hope you'll stay with me for a few more moments. If it is certain that we will ALL see Jesus one day, then are you absolutely certain that you are prepared for that meeting?
Jesus spoke about people who "thought" their eternity was secure, but who were gravely mistaken.
"Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’" (Matthew 7:22-24)
Jesus let it be known that there is a huge difference between DOING THINGS for Him and KNOWING Him. There is a huge difference between CALLING Him Lord and Him BEING Lord of your life. You may fool others. You may even fool yourself. But you cannot fool Christ who knows your every action, thought and attitude.
Make absolutely certain today where your heart is and where your eternity will be. How do you do that? Paul explains:
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified (made right), and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:9,10,13)
BE CERTAIN OF YOUR FUTURE. It's a matter of eternal life with God or eternal separation from God.
