Endurance

I have driven by this tree for decades in Cades Cove and never given much thought about it. In fact, this may be the first time I've photographed it from this perspective. Yet, seeing it on this occasion brought one word to mind - endurance.

This tree is bent over and disfigured in such a way that it bears the scars of some traumatic event. Yet, because it is firmly rooted it persists in its growth, undaunted by the past.

This tree reminds me that if we are firmly rooted in God's Word and trust in Him with our whole heart, then we too can face whatever trials or temptations come our way. We may have the scars to show for it, but they exist as a testimony of God's grace and faithfulness to provide a way to endure.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
