Bridge Like a Friend
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel sang a song "Bridge Over Troubled Water" beginning with the lyrics:
When you're weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
Oh when times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Well, the water didn't look so troubled on this day. The scenery around it was picture perfect too. However, when the heavy rains come and the flow increases significantly this area can look a lot different and the river becomes very troubled. In either case, the water is still strong enough to knock you off your feet and there's a good chance you will get wet or injured on the rocks -- hence the bridge.
So, it's always good to have a friend. Especially one that will lay it all down for you. One that will bridge those troubled waters for you and with you. That's my Jesus...
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (John 15:13)
Jesus became the bridge between God and man when the chasm was so wide and so troubled that heaven was unreachable in our own efforts.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8)
