It's Not Where But Who
It's Not WHERE You Worship but WHO You Worship That Matters
I am a member of Northeast Church -- A Southern Baptist Fellowship. We are located in Braselton, GA. The building where we meet was once a Motorola factory but now houses 4 acres of ministry area under one roof. We are blessed to have this property.
It has become more commonplace over the last couple of decades for people to meet for worship in non-traditional settings. I find nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, many are meeting in schools, theaters, community centers and under park pavilions.
Sometimes we've become so attached and hung-up on ornate architecture, tall steeples, pipe organs and pulpits that we've forgotten that genuine worship is a matter of transformed hearts and lives yielded daily to Jesus Christ.
It matters not where you meet with fellow believers to worship, but it does matter WHO you worship. We can, unfortunately, be guilty of worshiping the building, the decor, the hymnals, the electric guitars, the preacher, and so on... We don't intentionally start out that way but when our focus is on the sanctuary rather than the Savior then we've placed another object of worship ahead of our Lord.
When the Samaritan woman at the well began questioning Jesus about the correct place to worship, He told her, "A time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth." (John 4:23-24)
Let's keep in mind what it really means to worship. God is not impressed with our buildings, but He certainly takes notice of our bodies. The church is the bride of Christ and it pleases God when His Son's bride is living sacrificially and set apart for His service, waiting anxiously and prepared for His return.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. (Romans 12:1)
