Treasures

I've taken many vacations where it seemed that we had packed up everything including the kitchen sink. How about you? We think we "need" everything under the sun to be happy and comfortable whether camping or living out our daily lives. The truth is that most things we consider a NEED are most likely a WANT.

Consider all the money that you have spent on clothes, electronics and recreational items that are now packed away, lost, thrown away or forgotten. None of those things are lasting treasures. Jesus said, “Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be." (Luke 12:33-34)

There are things that we can invest our time, resources and money in that have an eternal impact. You can change someone's life now and forever by offering them a clean cup of water along with the Living Water. What do I mean? The most important thing you can do for a person is to share with them how to know Jesus while showing them His love through generous acts. You can donate money all day long to good causes that help people, but unless those agencies are also leading people to salvation in Christ then all they will have in the end is another rusty sink.

So, consider the impact you are having based on what you treasure most. Are you storing up things for yourself on earth that will eventually be thrown away or sold... or are you giving your time, efforts and monies to build up a storehouse of rewards/treasures in heaven?

The most valuable treasure we can obtain here on earth are the lives that we take along with us to heaven. What is treasured in your heart?
