Deep Roots

Where all other trees have fallen or been washed away, it is the tree with the deepest roots that remains and endures life's storms. This was one of the final trees standing upright on the day we visited Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island, GA.

This tree is a reminder for us to sink your roots deeply into a firm foundation, and we too will be able to withstand the winds, waves and tides of life.

Colossians 2:7
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

It should not go unnoticed that a person whose life is deeply and securely rooted in Jesus Christ will demonstrate a stronger faith and a life overflowing with thankfulness. Well, how can you not be full of gratitude when you realize what a great privilege it is to be a child of God because of Jesus' demonstration of great love on our behalf?!

When we fail to dig in deeply, then we are likely to be "tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming." (Ephesians 4:14)

Don't let the world and Satan fool you, trick you, deceive you and lead you astray. Following a hurricane that swept through the area, this tree was no longer standing. This is even more evidence in nature that we need to dig in with DEEP roots of faith and confidence in Jesus alone.
